Topic:

DU-TCC 1209: a Multipurpose CMOS IC

Abstract: A new IC which contains the recently introduced Double Threshold Circuit (DTC) will be presented, some of its properties and many of its applications discussed. These applications include its use as an Activation Function for Neural Networks, Character Recognition, Quantization, Data Classification, Ring Oscillators, Pulse Width Modulator, Level Crossing Detector etc.

Biography:

I. Cem Goknar received the Dipl. Ing. degree in EE from Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Istanbul, Turkey, the Ph.D. degree from Michigan State University, East Lansing in 1963 and 1969, respectively. He joined ITU in 1963 and became Full Professor in 1979. He received the Minna-James-Heineman- Stiftung Grant under NATO’s Senior Scientist Program and was a Visiting Professor with the University of California, Berkeley, in 1977, the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON, Canada, in 1978, the Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby, Denmark, in 1980, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, from 1995 to 1998. From 2000 to 2015, he was a Professor with Dogus University, Istanbul, and head and founder of the ECE Department. Since 2015, he is a Professor and Chairman of Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Işık University, Istanbul. He has published more than 100 technical papers. His current research interests include circuits and systems, signal processing, neural networks, chaos, and fault diagnosis. Dr. Göknar is a Life Fellow of IEEE, IEEE-TR CASS Chapter Chair, a member of the Scientific Committee of European Conference on Circuit Theory and Design, European Circuit Society Council, and Turkish Electrical Engineers Chamber.

Topic:

METAMUTATOR: a Versatile, Basic 4-Port and its Applications

Abstract: A recently introduced 4-port with a very basic port description (almost a 4x4 identity matrix) observed in many circuit configurations but without recognition by its users will be presented and its many realizations exhibited. When 2 of its ports are properly terminated the resulting 2-port behaves behaves like a mutator (hence the prefix meta) and can be used for simulating memstors. Other applications include realizations of quadrature oscillators, transconductance and transimpedance amplifiers.
