Topic:

Implementing a Simple MQTT Client on an ESP32 Board

This workshop will go through the essential knowledge needed to prototype simple IoT applications using the MQTT protocol. The workshop will include high-level description of IoT concepts, MQTT protocol, Microcontrollers, and embedded software development. Attendees will gain practical knowledge in programming the popular ESP32 microcontroller module and using the Arduino IDE. After attending this workshop, attendees should be able to implement a simple MQTT client on an ESP32 board, connect the ESP32 to an MQTT broker and perform simple Publish/Subscribe transactions.

Pre-requisites:

  • Basic programming experience is recommended for attending this workshop.
  • Optional: access to a PC (attendees can use a web-based simulator to replicate the demos in the workshop)

Biography:

Dr. Ali Ebrahim is an assistant professor at the department of Computer Engineering, University of Bahrain. Ali obtained a B.Eng. (1st class) in Electronics and Electrical Engineering, followed by an M.Sc. degree in 2008 from the University of Glasgow, UK. In 2015, Ali received a PhD degree from the University of Edinburgh, UK in the field of “Reconfigurable Computing”.
