Biography:

Biography

 

Prof. Samir I. Shaheen, Professor of Computer Engineering, He got his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electronics and Communications, Cairo University in 1971 and 1974 respectively. In 1979, he received his Ph.D. from McGill University in Computer Vision. His research interests include Knowledge Engineering, Computer Vision, Intelligent Systems, Computer, and Network Security. Professor Shaheen is the chair of IEEE Computer Chapter in Egypt and is a member of ACM, and the Egyptian Society for Engineers. From 1979 to 1981, he worked in the Computer Vision Lab, McGill University. In 1986, he joined the King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Arabia. In 1989, he returned to Cairo University and helped start the new Computer Engineering Department. During 1994-2004, he was the Director of Cairo University Scientific Computer Center and Network. During 2001-2004, he was Chair of Computer Engineering Department. In 2005, he became Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University. He is the founder of Cairo University campus wide optical fiber network and Information System. He worked for UNESCO and the Ministry of Communication and Information technology for several projects in E-Learning, Telemedicine, Family Medicine, and Training. He is the founder for the E-Learning, and Telemedicine Initiatives in Egypt. He has several projects with the European Union in GIS and E-Learning. He is the Principle Investigator and the chief designer of Cairo University Information System. Prof. Shaheen received the 2004-Egyptian State Excellence Prize in Advanced Technolgical Sciences in Engineering.

 

In 2008, Prof. Shaheen Started a Cloud development to provide E-Government services for the Egyptian public. Several Projects is currently in production, and/or development phases. For example, the main system for distributing high school graduates to different universities and higher educational institutes has been in production and handles 800,000 students every year. In addition, other E-government projects to provide online services to the public is being developed or being tested. Prof. Shaheen has more than 175 scientific papers published in International Journal and conferences..

2- Discussion of how to facilitate involvement of industry and members in the sponsorship of Humanitarian projects in rempote location and underpriviged students in remote universities.

3- Arranging teams with industry for organizing the process.

4- Discussing Cooperation with other technical Chapters e.g. Computer Chapter, Communication Chapter, ... etc.
