Dr. Ardavan Rahimian from Ulster University will deliver a talk on antenna technology and its pivotal role in shaping the future of wireless communications. With a keen focus on the evolution from 5G to 6G networks, Dr. Rahimian will go through the challenges of advanced antenna design, fabrication, and characterization techniques. Biography:

Dr Ardavan (FHEA, MIEEE) received his MEng (Hons) degree in Electronic and Communications Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK, in 2009, and his PhD degree in Electronic Engineering, as well as a Diploma of Researcher Development, from the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), UK, in 2018. His doctoral thesis focused on mmWave array beamforming technologies for next-generation wireless subsystems, particularly developing flexible/conformal and large-scale/massive Rotman lenses. From 2018 to 2019, he was a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) with the School of EECS at QMUL, working on an industrial research project on the design and feasibility study of compact sub-6 GHz lens-type feeding networks for 5G applications, supported by Huawei Technologies. In the summer of 2019, he also worked as a part-time Test Engineer at Voltaware, an electricity data, sensor, and monitoring company based in London. Since autumn 2019, he has been a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Electronic Engineering with the School of Engineering at Ulster University, Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK.

He has successfully (co-)supervised doctoral projects on microwave metasurfaces and AI/ML-centric RF propagation. In 2009, he won the Rohde & Schwarz Technology Prize for his MEng project, Steerable Antennas for Automotive Communication Systems.

His research interests lie primarily in the broad areas of RF/microwave/mmWave devices, circuits, and systems; computational electromagnetics; antennas and wireless propagation; communication systems; and their interdisciplinary applications. He has (co-)authored several original papers in the above areas.
