Have you ever considered starting your own consulting business and how might it compare to being an employee of an established company? Arrowhead Section member, Joe Peterson, opened an independent engineering firm in October 2022 which now provides him full-time employment. Joe will present his journey from power utility employee to engineering firm business owner including the requirements and process to register a new business, obtaining liability insurance, record keeping, taxes plus several lessons learned from his start-up experience. Many of these topics might be familiar but some may surprise even experienced small business owners.
