The IEEE Milestone "Weston Meters" will be dedicated at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), Newark, NJ, on Friday, September 23, 2016. The IEEE Milestone program recognizes technological innovation and excellence that benefit humanity through unique products, services, seminal papers and patents. As of 2016, more than 160 IEEE Milestones have been approved and dedicated around the world. The IEEE Milestone "Weston Meters" is the first Milestone installed at NJIT. It recognizes Weston's inventions and innovations that led to the first portable and direct-reading current and voltage meters, which were introduced in 1888-1893. These meters were based on research and development performed by Edward Weston (1850-1936) and the Weston Electrical Instrument Company. Weston was also a founding member of the board of trustees of what is known now as the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

The dedication program is as follows. From 10:00 until 11:30 am, there will be several presentations in 112 Eberhardt Hall to celebrate the "Weston Meters" Milestone in 112. Several presentations will highlight the inventions and the inventor. The IEEE President, Dr. Barry Shoop, will unveil a bronze plaque commemorating the achievement, to be placed permanently at NJIT. In addition to the main event (10:00-11:30), there will be a 09:00 am tour of the Weston holdings in the Robert W. Van Houten Library. Please register and add in the comment section of the registration if you would like to participate in the tour as well.
