IEEE Activities in Hyderabad Section.

Biography:

Dr. Lakshminarayana passed B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) from JNTU, Hyderabad in First Class with Distinction in 1978. Did M.Tech in Microwave and Radar Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1980. While in service in DRDO, he was awarded Commonwealth Fellowship during 1988-1991, and did Ph.D. from the Queen’s University of Belfast, United Kingdom.

Dr. Lakshminarayana joined Defence Electronics Research Laboratory, DLRL, DRDO, Hyderabad, as Scientist ‘B’ in Jan 1981. Over 34 years in DRDO, Dr Lakshminarayana immensely contributed towards indigenous development of Identification of Friend or Foe (IFF) Systems and Electronic Warfare programmes. His primary contribution was towards the design and in-house development of linear and cylindrical phased arrays for IFF systems and a number of antennas and subsystems for Electronic Warfare (EW) programmes.

As Project Director of Non-Com Segment of Programme Samyukta, he has steered the indigenous development and production of Two Control Center Blocks of Radar Electronic Warfare System for Indian Army. As Associate Programme Director of Programme SAMYUKTA, he was responsible for User exploitation of full Samyukta Electronic Warfare System. As Project Director of Project ‘ESWAR’, for Development of Advanced Communication ESM Technologies, he got 12 subsystems developed indigenously, resulting in substantial reduction of gap in achievement of self-reliance in modern Communication Electronic Warfare Systems. As Project Director of Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AEW&C), he was responsible for successful flight-testing of Communication Support Measure (CSM) System on EMB-145 Aircraft.

At the time of his superannuation,Dr Lakshminarayana was Programme Director of Naval Indigenous Electronic Warfare Programme, Samudrika, forDesign & Development of a family of Electronic Warfare Systems indigenously, for seven different platforms of Navy. With 34 years of R&D experience, Dr Lakshminarayana superannuated from DRDO service on 30 April 2015 as Scientist ‘H’ (Outstanding Scientist), Associate Director DLRL and Programme Director, SAMUDRIKA. Presently he is Professor in ECE & Principal of Kshatriya College of Engineering, Armoor.

Dr. Lakshminarayana has authored/co-authored more than two-dozen publications in National and International Conferences and Journals. One Scholar got Ph D under his guidance and guiding two more Research Scholars for their Ph.D. degree. His areas of interest include Antennas, Microwave Components and advanced Electronic Warfare Systems.

Apart from the above technical contributions, since 1988, Dr Lakshminarayana has actively associated with premier professional Societies. Dr. Lakshminarayana is a Fellow of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India), Member of AOC, and a Senior Member of Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, (IEEE) USA. He served IETE Hyderabad Centre and IEEE Hyderabad Section in various capacities. Presently he is Chairman of IEEE Hyderabad Section.
