The Product Safety Engineering Society and IEEE EMC Chicago chapters welcome another annual St. Patrick's Day social and technical meeting where members, guests, and interested attendees come together for a festive evening of conversation and professional networking.  We will have good food, refreshments, learning, and more, so come and re-engage with your technical community colleagues.

Compliance 101 – Common Product Safety and Certification Construction and Testing Requirements for any Product

-Explain common requirements walking through a fictitious product from the plug, down the cord, and inside the product.

-Discuss the rationale behind the construction requirements.

-Review methods and rationale for the various tests carried out on any product that gets submitted for Certification.

-Explain Critical Components, how to find them and how to manage them in designs.

-Highlight the UL databases, a reference tool every designer should have in their bag of tricks.

-Outline best practices and how to make Certifications a successful project first time through the process.

 

Biography:

John Allen is the Founder and President of Product Safety Consulting. The company is in its 35th year. Over the last 37 years John has obtained worldwide Certifications on a diverse list of product categories including lighting, consumer electronics, small and large electrics, medical, industrial controls, machinery, gas appliances, Robotics, ITE, and many more. John also has been doing Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments for over 15 years and serves as a senior advisor on product safety to a number of global companies. John is deeply involved in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Product Safety Engineering Society (PSES) since the beginning of his career in 1985. He is Past Chair of the PSES Chicago Chapter, past Chair for the PSES's flagship Symposium ISPCE 2015, has held various positions on the Board of Governors including a term as President (2017-2019) and President again for 2024-2025. He is also the Founder and Chairman of the Compliance 101 Technical Committee.
