Topic:

The Little Island That Can; Salt Spring Moves Towards Energy Resilience

Biography:

Simon’s first career was as an airline pilot, flying for British Airways for 34 years. Whilst working he took a degree course with the Open University.  On retiring from aviation he went to the University of Reading in the UK and took an MSc course in Renewable Energy and the Environment, his dissertation was an evaluation of a tri layer photovoltaic panel, with particular reference to temperature and light sensitivity.  On graduating he worked for Solar Century, at the time the largest provider of solar energy equipment in the UK, he then worked for Whitfield Solar, a technology start up developing concentrating solar panels.  In 2010 he moved with his wife to Canada and now works in an advisory position with the Salt Spring Community Energy Society whose aim is to raise the awareness of the potential of solar energy to assist with energy resilience for the island and for BC as a whole.
