Enhancing Electricity Grid Resilience against
Extreme Weather Conditions
Saeed Manshadi, PhD
This presentation addresses the urgent need to enhance power grid resilience in the face of increasing wildfire threats, exacerbated by climate change and other factors. It explores innovative strategies and technologies for mitigating the impact of natural disasters on power systems, ensuring the continuity of electricity supply to customers and critical infrastructure. The presentation delves into the challenges of modeling and incorporating risk in grid operations and proposes solutions through wildfire risk-aware planning and robust optimization for long-term planning. It highlights the significance of de-energizing power lines in high-risk conditions and the potential of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) to meet demand growth while minimizing wildfire risks.
