The Move is Mobile Outreach using Volunteer Engagement (MOVE) an IEEE-USA initiative established in 2016 to provide mobile emergency relief. This program is committed to assisting victims of natural disasters with short-term communications, computer, and power solutions. These temporary emergency relief provisions help those affected stay connected and ensure individuals can access and coordinate the help they need. Services include phone charging, internet & communications support, and lighting for disaster victims.
When not supporting disasters, it provides learning opportunities for the general public in the area of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).
MOVE has deployed to over 27 disasters in the past 6 years throughout the eastern United States. In 2021, we acquired a new truck and are in the process of positioning this MOVE-2 truck to support the western United States. With two trucks, we will be able to support the entire US.
The Move Truck will stop in Springfield AR at the R5 Conference.
