Zdeněk Hurák of AA4CC, DCE, FEE, CTU

Topic:

Overview of activities at the DCE, FEE, CTU

Presentation of activities and projects currently under way at the Department of Control Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, with emphasis on possible international collaboration.

Biography:

Dr. Zdeněk Hurák (*1974) is a docent (~associate professor) in technical cybernetics at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague. He is a deputy head of the the Department of Control Engineering, within which he chairs his AA4CC research group. He received his Ph.D. degree in Cybernetics and Robotics at Czech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic, in 2004, (PhD advisor Michael Šebek), for his research in l1 optimal control. He received his Ing. degree (~M.Sc. or Dipl.Ing.) in aerospace electrical engineering (summa cum laude) at Military Academy (now University of Defense), Brno, Czech Republic, in 1997. In the spring 1999, he was awarded Boeing Fellowship, which supported his 3-month stay at Iowa State University, Ames, USA. He was a visiting researcher at TU Eindhoven, The Netherlands, for 8 months in 2008. He was awarded Fulbright's scholarship for a visiting position at University of California, Santa Barbara, for 7 months in 2014. Currently, he gives graduate lectures on Optimal and Robust Control and undergraduate lectures on Modeling and Simulation of Dynamic Systems. He supervises students, and manages research projects with academic and industrial partners. His research interests include numerical algorithms for optimal, robust and distributed control, and applications of advanced control schemes in electro-mechanical systems, (micro)robotics & microfluidics, and even intelligent transportation. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and serves the community as a Chapter Secretary of Control Systems Chapter of Czech-Slovak Section of IEEE, and as a member of the editorial board of Automa journal (and Kybernetika journal in the past). He serves as a reviewer for IEEE TAC, IEEE TCST, IFAC Automatica, IFAC Mechatronics, IFAC Control Engineering Practice and Asian Journal of Control. He attends IEEE CDC and IFAC World Congress, and occasionally IEEE MSC, ACC, MTNS, IFAC ROCOND and a few other conferences.
