Communication-Efficient Distributed Control of Multi-Agent Systems and Its Applications
Distributed cooperative control of networked multi-agent systems has been a hot topic in the control and robotics communities in the past two decades, due to many practical applications such as formation control of mobile robots, coordination of unmanned aerial vehicles, and coverage control of sensor networks. Cooperative control problems are often addressed via distributed control strategies, in which each agent can only use the information of itself and its neighboring agents. In practice, individual agents may have limited resources such as energy resources and communication bandwidth. To improve their utilization efficiency, distributed event-triggered control strategies have been developed for multi-agent systems. However, most of them share a fundamental but undesirable need to use global information on the communication network topology and/or continuous communication between neighboring agents.
This talk will present communication-efficient distributed control strategies for networked multi-agent systems to guarantee their stability, efficiency and scalability. Firstly, I will present our communication-efficient distributed control strategies for solving consensus and cooperative output regulation problems of multi-agent systems with heterogeneous agent dynamics and/or external disturbances. Secondly, I will show how to apply our distributed control design to converter-based microgrids. Particularly, I will present communication-efficient distributed control strategies for converter-based distributed generators, networked power buffers, and networked battery systems, respectively. Finally, I will conclude this talk with future research directions towards distributed cooperative control of multiple autonomous systems under cyber-security threats
