Women in Power Conference
The Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College organized the “Women in Power” conference on the 5th and 6th of April 2024 with the theme “Catalyzing Change: Women Empowering the Next Wave.” The conference theme was aligned with the year’s Women’s Day campaign, "Inspire Inclusion," and the official UN observance theme, "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress." The college hosted eminent women personalities on April 6th from across various sectors of science, engineering, and technology. The inaugural function was graced by the chief guest, Mrs. Neerja Mathur, former chairperson of the Central Electricity Authority, and guests of honor Prof. Prerna Gaur, Director NSUT, Chair Elect 2024 IEEE India Council, and Mrs. Ammi R Toppo Chief Engineer Central Electricity Authority .The eminent inaugural speakers discussed the various issues and challenges in women’s participation in science, engineering, and technology fields. They also shared their experiences and changes in the pattern of inclusivity in STEM fields over the years. The keynote session was enlightening with a thought-provoking talk by Dr. Livleen K Kahlon, TERI, on “Demystifying the Role of Women Leadership in Climate Action.” Another keynote address was by Dr. Rashmi Agarwal on the IEEE women in engineering International Leadership Summit. After lunch hours were dedicated to the panel discussion which was graced by eminent panelists from diverse fields of STEM, Dr. Navita Gupta, Director Satyakiran School of NDT Delhi, Mrs. Debjani Bhatia, Renewable Energy Professional and former GM of IREDA, Dr. Shivani Sharma, Principal Consultant at Hitachi Energy, Dr. Rachna Garg, Professor at DTU, and Dr. Sweta Tripathi, IEEE WIE Affinity Group Revitalization Committee Member. The key points of the panel included a discussion on challenges faced by the female workforce in science, technology, and engineering fields and ways to overcome them. The panel discussion also mentioned the role of the male workforce and their support in women inclusivity and diversity of the workforce. The honourable Director-General Dr. R K Agarwal mentioned in his welcome speech that our institution is more inclined to have greater participation of women in every activity as we find the ladies and girls to be more sincere, honest, hardworking, efficient, and loyal to the institution. Most of the senior administrative positions in the college are held by women. The program ended with the valedictory session, which witnessed certificate and prize distribution to the participants of student activities the previous day, by Director Dr. Hemant Ahuja.

Smt. Neerja Mathur is an Electronics & Communication Engineer, with M Tech from IIT Delhi, and joined Central Electricity Authority in July 1979 as Assistant Director. In CEA she has worked in many key roles and diverse area, some of them are
Power System Wing in the area of Protection and Instrumentation and appraisal of transmission schemes.
- In Grid Operation & Distribution wing she worked extensively in the area of Load Despatch and Telecom facilities for the Power Sector.
- In Planning Wing she has been in Integrated Resource Planning Division and has been working in the area of short term and Long term generation planning and involved in the formulation of the National Electricity Plan.
- As Chief Engineer of Operation and Monitoring Division of the Planning Division, she was involved with Fuel Monitoring of Power Stations in the country and addressing of issues related to availability of Power Stations.
- As Chief Engineer (Integrated Resource Planning) in the Planning Wing of CEA looking after Generation Planning.
- As Member (Grid Operation and Distribution), CEA is working in the area of grid management, operation performance monitoring and distribution aspects of the power sector
She was the first and perhaps the only women chairperson of Central Electricity Authority she also served as the Additional Secretary to the Government of India.

B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from G.B.Pant Univ of Technology and Agriculture, Pantnagar, in 1988, M.Tech from Delhi College of Engineering in 1996, and Ph.D. from Delhi University in Artificial Intelligence and Control. 6 years of Industry experience and 23 years of Teaching experience in Delhi College Engineering and NSIT, Delhi. She is currently working as a professor in the Instrumentation and Control Division, NSIT, Dwarka, New Delhi, India. More Than 200 research papers in International Journals and IEEE Conferences. She has guided more than 200 B.Tech and M.Tech students. Guided many PhD students also. She is the Director, Technical Business Incubator of NSIT, and NBA Co-ordinator of NSIT. She is a member of the NBA and UGC Expert Committee. ` She has organized IICPE-2010, INDICON2020, DELCON2020 and now organising TENSYMP2024 as General Chair at NSUT and in the organizing committee of many IEEE international Conferences in the Delhi Section. Besides teaching, she is actively associated with IEEE (Senior Member), ISTE (Life Member), and IE (Fellow). Women Participation in STEM Field: Inclusivity and Diversity
Biography:
Ammi RuhamaToppo, presently serving as the Chief Engineer, Integrated Resource Planning at Central Electricity Authority, and brings experience of 23 years in power sector.
Her extensive expertise encompasses various domains, including Generation Expansion Planning Studies, demand forecasting, policy formulation, demand supply justification, allocation of power from central Generating Stations. Her active involvement in shaping the National Electricity Plan Vol I Generation for both 2018 & 2023 underscores her commitment to power sector. Furthermore, she has played a pivotal role in “Optimal Generation Capacity Mix report for 2029-30” (version 1.0 & 2.0) Noteworthy contributions include leading the preparation of the report on “Greening the A&N Islands” and spearheading the development of Resource Adequacy Guidelines. Presently, she is spearheading resource adequacy studies on an All India basis and successfully complete studies for 22 States with ongoing assessment for other States.
She holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Telecommunication from Govt. Engineering College Jabalpur and as MBA from IIT Delhi. Beginning her professional journey at BHEL, she made the transition to Central Electricity Authority in 2000.

Demystifying the Role of Women Leadership in Climate Action
Biography:
Dr Livleen K Kahlon
Associate Director, TERI
Dr Livleen Kaur Kahlon joined TERI in May 2002, and is currently associated with the Environment Education and Awareness Division of the organisation as its Associate Director.
She is actively involved in strategic execution of various models of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to achieve transformative impact amongst several sections of the society. Experienced in spearheading research, outreach and conservation education, Dr Kahlon’s core competency is in critical review and analysis of documents and reports related to environment education, youth empowerment and outreach, amidst popularization of scientific and environment topics. She has invested in communications related to EE (Environment Education) and conceptualized several stakeholders’ dialogues related to GEC (Global Environmental Citizenship).
Prior to her stint at TERI, Dr Kahlon has worked with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-India) and National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR). With over two decades of experience, she has worked extensively in examining cross-cutting environment issues such as energy, waste, water, climate change, biodiversity, agriculture, and more in context with curriculum linkages, education tools, trainings and capacity building with a whole school approach and a multiplier effect.
Dr Livleen has completed over 100 projects in sustainability space and is a member of IUCN commissions (CEC & CEESP), International Expert Networks (ESD & RCE UNU), academic councils, and has been conferred with Institutional Roll of Honour and Study Scholarships.
With a doctorate in Environment Management from GGSIPU, Delhi and Masters in Botany from Delhi University, Dr Livleen is also an Adjunct Faculty at TERI School of Advanced Studies.

Dr. Rachana Garg is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in the field of Electrical Engineering. Currently serving as a Professor and Head in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Delhi Technological University, she has been associated with the university since 1995. Dr. Garg holds a Ph.D. degree and has made significant contributions to the field through her research and publications.
Her research interests encompass a wide range of topics within electrical engineering, particularly focusing on renewable energy systems, power quality control, smart grid technologies, and environmental impact assessment. Dr. Garg has authored or co-authored numerous publications.

The main objectives of the cell are1. To work out suitable programs/ schemes, including Remedial Courses, for improving the academic performance of students from SC, ST, OBC, women and persons with disabilities (whether at undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD or other levels) and/ or to monitor the implementation of such programs/ schemes2. To coordinate with government and other funding agencies (including Public Sector Undertakings/ Public Sector Banks) with a view to mobilise financial and other resources required for educational empowerment of the students from marginalized sections.3. To disseminate the information and act as a counselling-cum-guidance centre for students belonging to the marginalized sections, especially with regard to academic, financial and social matters;
4. To help and develop a cordial inter-personal relationship among students and between teachers and the students from marginalized sections for academic interaction and extra-curricular activities; by sensitising the teaching and other staff.
5. To assist in smooth and efficient running of a Resource Centre which specializes in addressing the needs of PwD in all categories including visual, hearing, orthopaedic, and neurological disabilities.
6. To promote a social and psychological environment to raise awareness on sexual harassment and gender based discrimination against women.7. Dr. Tripathi currently holds the position of Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Amity University, Haryana. With over 14 years of experience in esteemed institutions, she is a senior administrator and a dedicated educator. In addition to her role as a professor, she also serves as the Ranking Coordinator at the institute.
Dr. Tripathi earned her Ph.D. in the field of medical signal and image processing from IIT Roorkee and her M.Tech in Electronic and Instrumentation Engineering from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. Throughout her career, she has made significant contributions to various international journals and conferences, with numerous published papers. Her impressive list of achievements includes 3 patents, 5 copyrights, and authoring a best-selling book titled "Digital IIR Filters with Labview."
In the realm of professional development, Dr. Tripathi has organized national and international conferences and Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) at the R10 and MGA levels. She is an active senior member of prestigious organizations such as IEEE, IEEE-WIE, and IEEE-CIS, in addition to holding life memberships with IAENG and IETE. Her research interests span a wide range of areas, including Image Processing, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, AI, and Embedded Systems.
One of Dr. Tripathi's passions lies in mentoring and sharing her expertise through technical conferences, summits, and workshops. She has been associated with IEEE for the past 8 years, actively contributing by organizing events, chairing conference sessions, and serving as an observer or oversight committee member for various IEEE conferences. Since 2021, she has had the honor of serving as the WIE (Women in Engineering) Chair for IEEE Uttar Pradesh Section, India.

Navita Gupta is a highly educated and experienced Lady NDT
expert of our Country. She heads the reputed Satyakiran School of
NDT, in Delhi, imparting NDT Level I, II and III trainings
globally. She herself is an NDT Level-III in several methods as per
ASNT, ISNT, NAS 410 and ISO 9712 certification schemes.
Navita Gupta is an Electronics and Communications Engineer,
with MBA in Marketing. She is also a Lead Auditor of QMS
Systems and a Certified Energy Auditor , apart from being a
Chartered Engineer.
Though she was appointed a Gazetted officer of the Govt of
Haryana in the early stages of her career, her passion towards
quality in Industry brought her to the field of Non Destructive
Testing and Quality Control.
Navita Gupta is the Chair of Electromagnetic Committee of ASNT
and has co-authored books on Eddy Current for ASNT. She is the
Vice Chair of ASNT Council of Women. She has been contributing
to ISNT as a member of the National Governing Council. She is a
Member of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for MTD21
Metallurgical NDT Committee.
Notably, her dedication and commitment is evident in the 7000
strong Alumni of Satyakiran School of NDT, all of whom are in
