On the 21st of November 2023, the Signal Processing Society (SPS) and IEEE Student Branch RSET organized a significant industrial visit to the Advanced Center for Atmospheric Radar Research (ACARR) at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). The visit included 30 students, with 19 being SPS members, along with one accompanying faculty member. From 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, the participants had the opportunity to explore the advanced facilities at ACARR and delve into the intricacies of atmospheric radar technology. Dr. Manoj, a distinguished Professor at ACARR, conducted an insightful seminar, providing students with a deeper understanding of advanced atmospheric radar applications.

During the visit, the attendees experienced firsthand the state-of-the-art radar technology employed at ACARR, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications. A sponsored refreshment break facilitated networking opportunities and informal discussions, demonstrating the Signal Processing Society's commitment to supporting educational initiatives. This industrial visit not only exposed students to cutting-edge technologies but also emphasized the collaborative efforts between SPS and IEEE Student Branch RSET in providing valuable educational experiences for students. This IV and Refreshment was fully Funded by the SPS.

Dr. Manoj M.G

Topic:

Atmospheric Radar Technology

Dr. Manoj M.G. obtained his Masters in Meteorology from Cochin University of Science and Technology in 2005. Later he joined as a Junior Research Fellow at the Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. He was awarded PhD in Atmospheric and Space Science from Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM, University of Pune) in 2012. Followed by a stint in IITM as Project Scientist, he moved on to the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC), University of Maryland, USA for the post-doctoral research where his focus was on the intricate research problem of aerosol radiative effects on monsoon and deep convection. Having completed the tenure, Dr. Manoj joined the Advanced Centre for Atmospheric Radar Research (ACARR), Cochin University of Science and Technology as Research Scientist in 2015. He is presently working as Scientist – D at ACARR, CUSAT. He is also engaged in regular teaching for the Masters Degree Programs.
