As a Tier 1 nuclear nation, Canada has a rich history of innovation in nuclear energy development and has contributed to the world with technologies ranging from uranium mining to the production of medical isotopes and, most of all, clean power generation via a fleet of CANDU nuclear power plants.

In this talk, we will take you back to the early development of nuclear power industries in Canada and journey through various stages of development until the present day of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).

We will discuss various types of SMR and Advanced Nuclear Reactors (ANRs) technologies, their development and deployment stages, and potential advantages and challenges.

The talk attempts to lead the audience on a journey from Canada’s glorious past to our bright future in nuclear energy, highlighting challenges and, more importantly, opportunities for next-generation engineers and scientists.
