IEEE Educational Activities, in association with IEEE LMAG of the IEEE Hyderabad Section, is organizing a webinar on "Physics of Remote Sensing, Satellite Imaging, Applications, and Career Opportunities." on  April 7, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. (IST) onwards.

 Abstract of the talk:

Remote sensing is the practice of deriving information about the Earth's land and water surfaces using images acquired from an overhead perspective, using electromagnetic radiation in one or more regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, reflected or emitted from the Earth's surface. Every sensor is limited in respect to the size of the smallest area that can be separately recorded as an entity on an image. This minimum area determines the spatial detail the fineness of the patterns-on the image. These minimal areal units, known as pixels ("picture elements"), are the smallest areal units identifiable on the image.
Remote sensing techniques are currently used by a number organizations for the study of remote objects such as earth, lunar, and planetary surfaces and atmospheres from great distances. Remote sensing data is processed using image processing techniques for producing conventional maps, thematic maps, resources surveys in the fields of agriculture, water resources, forestry etc.
For students, study of Remote Sensing exposes to number of technologies* that can contribute to several dimensions and subsequent personal and professional development. *Imaging systems, image processing software, artificial intelligence techniques, robotics, high speed computing systems, large capacity storage devices, data reception, data processing, high-speed internet, lasers , deep space communication systems, etc.,

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has a vibrant Indian Remote Sensing program since 1988 with a gamut of Indian Remote Sensing Missions (IRS) observing Earth with Optical, microwave and hyper-spectral instruments flown on-board to provide necessary data in various
spatial, spectral and temporal resolutions to cater to different user requirements in the country and for global usage. NRSC is the nodal centre for hosting Satellite Data Products from more than 13 IRS satellites right from the first IRS optical mission namely IRS-1A and SAR imaging missions.
Remote Sensing satellites were used to monitor environmental pollution levels, traffic changes in the cities etc., during Covid 19 period all over the world.
