OR MTT-ED Chapter Meeting

#LIDAR #ROS
Share

Technology of the scanning laser range finder (LIDAR) is explained. The implementation of the time-off light method in LIDAR is discussed. Examples of LIDAR applications in industry and research are shown. The audience also learns how to display the real-time distance data of a LIDAR using rviz (3D visualization tool for Robot Operating System (ROS)). Dr. Sup Premvuti is a representative of Hokuyo Automatic Co.

This is part of our ROS (Robot Operating System) series. Time will be available at the end of the meeting to address general ROS questions, get help with your projects, and possibly experiment with a LIDAR sensor.

Biography:

Dr. Epp was a Digital Rights Management and Content Protection expert while at Intel Corp where he filed related patents. He focused on computer security, architecture development, writing hardware robustness requirements, implemented software/firmware systems, did performance analysis, attack analysis on embedded consumer electronics, and ported Linux to an ultra-mobile device. He co-founded an Intel wide content protection conference.  He retired after fifteen years.

Before joining Intel Dr. Epp was a tenured associate professor of computer science at the University of Portland. He wrote an intro to Java text focused on design idioms and object design patterns using a systems design approach. He taught SIGCSE workshops and wrote papers focused on Java, patterns, and student laboratories. He was awarded NSF ILI/RUI grants for innovative media processing and laboratory curriculum development. Dr. Epp has a total of fifteen years of experience developing and teaching undergraduate courses, seminars, and laboratories.
