Summary:

Title: Aluminum Conductor Composite Core (ACCC) Conductor

Description:

Join the IEEE PES/IAS Denver chapter during our May technical meeting. Our guest speaker this month is Jack Beathard from Lamifil North America.

Aluminum Conductor Composite Core (ACCC) conductor is able to to carry approximately twice as much current as a traditional aluminum-conductor steel-reinforced conductor (ACSR) of the same size and weight, making it popular for retrofitting an existing electric power transmission line without needing to change the existing towers and insulators.  Utilities are also using ACCC to increase efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions on high ampacity transmission applications.  In this presentation we will look to cover ACCC industry trends, the rise of state level conductor efficiency standards, and how we see the utility industry implementing this technology into the power grid.

Biography:

Jack has nine years of experience in the electric utility industry, primarily focusing on business development efforts for wire and cable manufacturers in the North American electric utility market. My career began with General Cable, where I focused on the Midwest territory, specializing in medium-voltage underground and overhead transmission systems. Following General Cable’s acquisition by Prysmain Group, my role expanded to include distribution, connectors, and high-voltage underground systems.

In 2020, he joined Lamifil, an overhead transmission conductor manufacturer headquartered in Antwerp, Belgium. Over the past four years, he has been dedicated to supporting the US and Canadian overhead conductor market consider ACCC as the overhead conductor of the future.
