Biosensing of Breast Tumor Margins using Terahertz Electronics: Bio-Terahertz
Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer. Every year, more than two million women worldwide are diagnosed with breast cancer. A tumor is usually surgically removed with the goal of removing as little healthy tissue as possible. After the tissue has been removed, it is usually examined by a pathologist to determine any remaining tumor edges. This process usually takes several days to complete. In 20% of the cases examined, it was found that the patient has to undergo another operation, which can be accompanied by an increase in psychological stress and associated risks for the patient. It is at this point that terahertz research interdisciplinary approaches come into play. This talk is devoted to describing the advances in developing terahertz imagers that can be used in life science applications, particularly for identifying tumor.

Biosensing of Breast Tumor Margins using Terahertz Electronics: Bio-Terahertz
Biography:
Dr. Priyansha Kaurav received her B.Tech degree in electronics and communication engineering from the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design, and Manufacturing, Jabalpur, India, in 2015, M.Tech. degree in RF and microwave engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India, in 2017, and a Ph.D. degree under the prestigious Prime Minister's Research Fellowship (PMRF) from the Centre for Applied Research in Electronics, IIT Delhi, in 2022. From 2017 to 2018, she worked for Qualcomm as an RFiC Design Engineer, contributing to developing transceivers for the Snapdragon family. During her Post Doc, she was the group leader within the terahertz remote sensing and imaging research group at the Institute for High-Frequency and Communication Technology (IHCT), Wuppertal, Germany, from 2022 to 2023. As a project investigator, she is involved in two German Research Foundation (DFG)-funded projects called " ESSENCE " and " KOSELLECK " that develop near-field Terahertz imaging systems that can visualize fine (microscopic) structures within organic cells. In her current role, she is working as an assistant professor in the Electronics and Communication Department at IIT Roorkee. Priyansha’s primary research is centered around electronics, Terahertz Sensors, and biomedical imaging. She has several high-quality publications and patents under her name. She has also co-authored a book on “Sub-Terahertz Sensing Technology for Biomedical Applications” (ISBN:978-981-19-3140-6). In the field of microwave, millimeter, and terahertz sensors and systems, she is a reviewer for several leading journals and transactions.
