On Robustly Invariant Polyhedral Sets and Bilinear Programming for Designing Constrained Output Feedback Controllers

 

In this seminar, we will discuss recent advancements in using bilinear programming techniques to design output feedback controllers for systems that are subjected to persistent disturbances and have state and control constraints. Specifically,  we will present the results based on a framework that uses a generalized augmented state space parameter varying (PV) model and the concept of robustly invariant polyhedral sets. This framework helps in dealing with PV incremental output feedback controllers, which are ideal for considering rate-control constraints and limits on state and control. We will discuss the ability to use bilinear programming to synthesize controller gains and robustly invariant polyhedral sets that satisfy all constraints. Additionally, we will examine the pros, cons, and other issues of this approach.

Biography:

Dr.  Eugênio B. Castelan received the Electric Engineering degree in 1982 and the M.Sc. degree in 1985, both from UFSC, Brazil and the Doctoral degree, in 1992, from Paul Sabatier University, France. From 1993 to 2018, he joined the Department of Automation and Systems at UFSC, Brazil, where he developed his teaching and research activities. In 2003, he spent a year at LAAS du CNRS, France, as an invited researcher in the Group MAC and three months at Robust Systems Lab, Northeastern University, Boston, in 2013. He was the chair of the Graduate Program on Automation and Systems Engineering at UFSC-Florianópolis from 2007 until 2010, vice-chair from 2010 until 2012, and has been its faculty member since then. He was a Senior Visiting Scholar in the Graduate Program on Energy and Sustainability at UFSC- Araranguá, from 2022 until 2023. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Control, Automation and Electrical Systems. His main research interests are constrained control systems, LPV and Fuzzy T-S control systems, and control applications.
