Understanding Responsible AI Technical Requirements

This event will be available live at SEMI, as well as over Zoom. Get to SEMI by 6:30pm to network – and enjoy great pizza and refreshments! All attendees MUST register using the Eventbrite form (see link).

Organizations that develop or operate applications using deep learning, large language models (LLMs), and generative AI are accountable for the security, safety, privacy, fairness, and transparency of their operation. AI applications require governance, and organizations must manage both the associated risks as well as their compliance with a growing number of laws and regulations. It’s critical to understand that each aspect of responsible AI involves various tools and processes at each of the stages of their development and operation.

In this presentation, CNSV member Ron Herardian will review the pillars of responsible AI. He will describe important technical requirements and tools, including example open source projects and vendor services, along with solutions from select software startups. The intent of this talk is to help attendees gain a better understanding of the technical implementation aspects of responsible AI.

Ron Herardian of Aethercloud

Biography:

Ron Herardian wrote his Master’s thesis at Stanford University on the history of artificial intelligence, following the evolution of AI from early ‘strong AI’ concepts and hardware neural networks to expert systems in the 1980s and cognitive science in the 1990s. In 2017, Ron left his position as Chief Architect for Oracle’s Collaboration Cloud to join a FinTech startup, Pivotus, where, as head of infrastructure, operations, and cybersecurity, he supported a small data science team working on recommendations and text summarization.

More recently, as part of work at the SAP SuccessFactors CTO Office, Ron provided architectural oversight for digital learning AI capabilities, including recommendations and video search. Ron now serves as a responsible AI consultant and as an advisor to Silicon Valley AI startups including Daxa, which provides data governance and security for LLMs, and Marketrix, which provides AI based sales automation. Ron is an IEEE-CNSV member.
