A CHIPS Program Office update – Beyond the leading edge

As the CHIPS program progresses, a number of preliminary funding announcements have been made.  These include the well-known leading edge CMOS fab projects, but also smaller investments in more specialized areas such as photonics. These projects are an important part of the CHIPS for America vision but it extends to many other technology areas. This talk will cover the progress to date and some of the CHIPS program goals in these other areas.

Steve Palmer

As the CHIPS program progresses, a number of preliminary funding announcements have been made, including large leading edge CMOS fab projects. These projects are an important part of the CHIPS for America vision but it extends to many other technology areas. I’ll talk about the progress to date and some of the CHIPS program goals in these other areas.

Biography:

Steve Palmer joined the CHIPS Program office in September 2023 as a Senior Advisor for National Security in the CHIPS Strategy Division. Prior to CHIPS Steve spent nearly 25 years in the semiconductor industry with IBM Microelectronics and GlobalFoundries in roles from embedded memory characterization, ASIC IP development, aerospace & defense program management, and silicon photonics product management. Steve has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Michigan Technological University and an MBA from the Kelley School of Business.
