Becoming a Student Member of IEEE GRSS Sri Lanka - A Step-by-Step Guide
Biography:
Lakshan, an accomplished electrical and electronic engineer, has led various IEEE roles. He graduated from the University of Peradeniya in 2022 and now serves as a Lecturer at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura’s Computer Engineering Department.
He is an IEEE MGA VOLT graduate of 2022, currently holds multiple roles including the Treasurer of IEEE Sri Lanka Section, Editor of the EMBS Chapter, and Advisor of the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. He has served in various leadership positions such as a member of the IEEE SIGHT Global Steering Committee in 2019, IEEE HTB Proposal Reviewer since 2023, and held roles in the IEEE R10 Student Activities Committee in 2022 and 2023. He was the inaugural Chair of the Sri Lanka Section SIGHT in 2022 and the Student Activities Chair in 2023.
He brings with him a wealth of experience from his involvement in IEEE, where he has held numerous positions and achieved several notable accolades. Lakshan was recognized with the Section Outstanding Volunteer Award in 2022 and as the IEEE STEM Champion by the Education Activities Board in 2023. His humanitarian work, including initiating projects for IEEE and pre-university STEM education, earned the Section Outstanding Project Award in 2022.
He is also an inventor and innovator, having won medals from the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission at the “Sahasak Nimawum” national competition for his research project. He received the Best Undergraduate Project Award in Electrical Engineering in Sri Lanka from the Institute of Engineers in Sri Lanka.
Additionally, Lakshan won the gold medal for the Best Undergraduate Project by the University of Peradeniya and the Best Control and Automation Project by the University of Peradeniya. He has also won numerous competitions, notably being awarded First Runners-Up in the Undergraduate Project Video Contest at the IEEE R10 (Asia and Pacific Region) Humanitarian Technology Conference 2021 and receiving both the Best Content Creation and Most Popular Content Creation awards at the IEEE Tech Narrator 2021. Lakshan's dedication and commitment to IEEE and the field of engineering are evident through his accomplishments and contributions. He has devoted his time and efforts to giving back to society through various IEEE initiatives.
