The IEEE SIGHT affinity group of the IEEE Student Branch at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT) with collaboration with IEEE Delhi Section recently organised an engaging event titled "Insight for Sight”, that commenced with an endearing Introduction ceremony. Dr. Deksha Hooda, graced the occasion, infusing the event with prestige and setting the stage for an enriching experience.

On August 2, 2024, the "Insight for Sight" podcast hosted a special episode titled "Encouraging Willpower in Students for Academic Challenges." This episode featured an insightful discussion led by Dr. Diksha Hooda from our university and was hosted by Satwik Pandey, a third-year CSE student. The session aimed to explore strategies for fostering willpower and resilience in students to help them overcome academic challenges.

● Mindfulness and Stress Management: Techniques such as mindfulness meditation, deep breathing exercises, and regular physical activity were recommended to help students manage stress and maintain focus. 



Role of Educators 

● Creating a Supportive Environment: Dr. Diksha emphasised the importance of educators and parents creating an environment that supports learning and resilience. Providing resources, offering encouragement, and modelling positive behaviours were highlighted as key elements. 

● Encouraging a Growth Mindset: Dr. Diksha stressed that emphasising the value of effort over innate ability helps students understand that intelligence and skills can be developed through hard work and perseverance.

Peer Support and Collaboration 

● Peer Mentoring Programs: The benefits of peer mentoring programs, where older students provide guidance and support to younger students, and how teachers can also help students by their personal networks were discussed. 

● Collaborative Learning: Group projects and study groups were suggested as ways to build a sense of community and shared responsibility among students. 

Audience Engagement 

The podcast episode included a Q&A session where listeners were allowed to ask questions by raising their hand. Topics raised by the audience included dealing with procrastination, balancing academic and extracurricular activities, and finding motivation during challenging times.It also included a rapid fire round in which questions about her college journey were included . Dr. Diksha provided thoughtful responses and additional resources for further support.

Biography:

Dr. Diksha Hooda is currently working as Assistant Professor (SG) in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. She has around 5 years of research and teaching experience with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. She has completed her Ph.D. thesis titled as “An Ontology-based Framework for Querying Heterogeneous Sensor Data” in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering Department from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, Punjab. She obtained her MTech focused in Computer Science titled as “A Framework for Efficient Delivery of software Products” from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. She gained industrial research experience for a year working at STMicroelectronics, Greater Noida in the R&D Division aiming at Design Data Management and its Optimization. She pursued her B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering from Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Mohali. She has been a position holder in the Top 25 winners globally in a Machine Learning based AI tournament, “NumerAI”, where she received Bitcoin as the prize money. She has qualified the GATE exam twice in 2015 (96 percentile) and 2016. She has published research articles in SCI indexed international journals as well as presented her work at various research conferences.
