Topic:

A WALK THROUGH AN INCINERATOR PROJECT ELECTRICAL DESIGN PROCESS, FROM UTILITY SERVICE TO LIGHTING

While deciding what topic could be presented to an engineering audience I discussed it with attendees at the 2024 Louisiana Engineering Society (LES) Joint Engineering Society Conference (JESC), engineers within my employer organization and fellow members of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The seasoned engineers indicated that good graphics along with practical knowledge is required to keep people engaged. Younger engineers liked the idea of hearing about mistakes made and information that can help them in advancing their career. I like the idea of making the presentation useful to multiple disciplines. After some discernment I settled on incorporating aspects of all approaches.

The electrical design process walk through will include CadWorx 3D Model Viewpoints and attendee interaction via the Slido App as we review aspects of a large incinerator process electrical design. I will cover design requirements, ANSI codes used, lessons learned, and nuggets of information for engineers and designers of all disciplines. The attraction to other engineering disciplines will include explanations for some electrical engineering acronyms they have likely heard during their careers (MCC's, LBS's), the differences between equipment like Switchgear, Switchboards, Panelboards, and the like. Also, required distances between electrical equipment and buildings, means of egress and fire pump system considerations are planned.

The presentation is sponsored by HGA, and the IEEE Shreveport Section.
