Topic:

Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Engineering: Their Contribution to Process Safety Management

Most presentations about Process Safety Management focus on the OSHA Process Safety Management Regulation and compliance steps using the IEC 61511 standard. Presenters speak their specialty “alphabet soup” accompanied by slides full of paragraphs, charts, and tables that are often confusing to working engineers whose expertise lies outside process/chemical or process safety engineering.

This is not that kind of presentation.

Electrical and Controls engineers play a vital role in all phases of the “safety life cycle” from identifying hazards to engineering and implementing solutions. This presentation will focus on those contributions by answering the questions of “what,” “when,” “how,” and “why” with a goal to improve the lines of communication among engineers who design, operate, and maintain facilities.

Biography:

Karen has worked as an engineer with process safety and control systems projects in South Louisiana's petrochemical industry since 1995.
