Publish or perish is often mentioned as a requirement for tenure, but the need to publish goes far beyond academia requirements. In this talk, I go through the definition of publishing and how broad the technical publishing world is from technical research journals to industry white papers.  Topics include the difference between traditional publishing versus self-publishing, industry versus academia, and journals versus books.  Finally, some general suggestions for technical writing are presented, such as "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
