Leadership and the Everyday Engineer


Local engineers will be discussing leadership in their everyday work. This panel of engineers are discussing the impact and important aspects of leadership in their work and successes.  This is a short meet-up seeks to generate insight and interest in everyday engineers and their roles as leaders. The goal is for audience members to be inspired to further the discussion meet-up and/or just connect.

    Dr. Drew Hinds

Biography:

Dr. Drew Hinds is an educational leader, who has served families as a teacher, career and technical instructor, online instructor, program coordinator, school and district administrator, and college instructor with experience in both public and private organizations. He enjoys reading, writing, and researching the topics of technology integration, career and technical education, school and program evaluation, and alternative schooling.

He is well known and frequently called upon for contributions as a strategic and technical advisor and consultant to educational companies and school districts. He recently shifted from public to private sector and working on a new and exciting team at T-Mobile Education focused on delivering digital equity and increased connectivity for all students.  He also serves as adjunct faculty and supervisor at the School of Education and Graduate School of Education (Educational Leadership) at Point Loma Nazarene University.

Saverna Ahmad is a visionary tech entrepreneur, accomplished software engineer, and dedicated mentor. As a co-founder of the ride-sharing app Rydelinx, valued at $52 million, Saverna has left an indelible mark on the tech industry with her innovative solutions and commitment to empowering women in technology and business. 

As the CTO of Tinktanc, Saverna was at the forefront of the company’s technical strategy. She oversaw software development, system maintenance, and led a talented technical team. Her efforts ensured Tinktanc provided cutting-edge technology solutions that helped small businesses enhance their online presence and customer engagement.

These are just a few of Saverna’s qualifications and skills.  I am happy to introduce Saverna because she is a leader in the tech industry and champion of women through her volunteer work at AnitaB.org a mentor, course facilitator and leader.

Tony of NexStream Technical Education

Anthony Mauro

Biography:

Anthony "Tony" Mauro is an Electrical Engineer, Educator and founder of NexStream Technical Education.  After his second retirement as a HS CTE teacher of 10 years, he now serves as the founder of NexStream Technical Education where he develops curriculum and trains teachers in Machine Learning and Digital Circuit Design.

His first career role was spent as an Electrical Systems Engineer at Qualcomm for 22 years. He has earned several patents as well as a Bachelors from Cal State Poly Pomona and a Masters from USC both in Electrical Engineering.

Dr. Sulekha Chattopadhyay of California Air Resources Board

Dr. Sulekha Chattopadhyay

Biography:

Dr. Chattopadhyay has gained expertise in Transportation Electrification, Air Quality, Policy Analysis, and Sustainability. She has a extensive history of connecting scientific research to meaningful, practical, and economically sound government policy. It is an honor to introduce Dr. Chattopadhyay for her work in engineering to improve the environment and our air quality. 

She currently works at California Air Resources Board as a Zero Emission Transportation Engineer.  Before that she served as Senior Regulatory Analyst Senior Regulatory Analyst at California Public Utilities Commission.  As you can imagine, Dr. Chattopadhyay has an extension knowledge of federal, state, and local air quality, energy and climate change regulations. She facilitates the implementation of Innovative Clean Transit Regulation that requires California's public transit agencies to transform their fleet to zero-emission vehicles by 2040. Additionally, she has overseen the evaluation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure programs across six utilities with a budget over $800 million.

She completed her dissertation research at UC Riverside in Environmental Science.
