SPAC                                                                                                                                                                                                                                SPAC is the largest, national networking event happening alongside the IEEE Ottawa Section AGM and Awards Banquet on November 1st, 2024 at Brookstreet Hotel! If you are a student in any stream of engineering or computer science or an industry professional that’s looking to create meaningful connections with some of Canada’s largest engineering companies, then SPAC is perfect for you! The 80th IEEE Ottawa Section Annual General Meeting and Awards Banquet

AGM 
The AGM is an annual forum for Members of the IEEE Ottawa Section to attend and learn about the Section activities over the past year as well as the plan for the upcoming year. It is also where the IEEE Ottawa Section Nominations and Appointments Committee will propose and present to the members the nominees for the 2025 IEEE Ottawa Officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary).

Note the AGM event is restricted to IEEE Ottawa members only.

Awards Banquet

The Awards Banquet is an annual event that provides an opportunity for recognizing and honouring outstanding local industry, individuals from academia and industry, and IEEE groups from the IEEE Ottawa Section.

This event offers an opportunity to meet and share ideas with academia and industry leaders, and gain inspiration from our keynote speaker. 

This event sells out every year and attracts 150+ people from academia, industry, and government. In addition to a great agenda, there will be plenty of time allotted for socializing, networking and enjoying a night of entertainment.

Registration: It is open for IEEE members, guests, and public (registration is needed - please see below)

Dinner:

A three course dinner will be served as part of this banquet.   You will be asked to select your menu option and to indicate any dietary restrictions as part of your registration.

Appetizer:

Fire roasted pepper soup, herb oil, creme fraiche (V, GF)

Main Course Menu Options (all served with seasonal vegetables):

    • Pan crisped chicken supreme, buttermilk whipped potato (GF, Halal)
    • AAA Canadian strip loin, Dauphinoise potato, red wine demi-glace.
    • Gnocchi : Roast vegetables, crisp onion, blistered cherry tomato, roasted red pepper sauce, olive dust. (Vegan, GF, Halal)

Dessert:

Chocolate mousse cake, layers of white, milk and dark chocolate on a brownie base, chocolate glaze and wafer.

As the Founder and Chairman of Wesley Clover International, a global investment management firm, Sir Terry has been instrumental in the creation and funding of hundreds of companies, fostering innovation across various sectors and supporting many entrepreneurs on their journeys.  Join us for an opportunity to hear directly from this Welsh Canadian entrepreneur as he shares insights from his remarkable journey of innovation, leadership, and business success.

Biography:

Sir Terry Matthews is the founder and Chairman of Wesley Clover International, a private, global investment management firm and holding company. Since 1972, Terry has founded or funded more than 100 companies, three of which have grown to exceed $1.0B in valuation. Early data networking giant Newbridge Networks and global business communications leader Mitel are highlights. More than 140 founders have now been backed by Wesley Clover, with more than $1.0B in direct investment. More than 20 IPOs, a larger number of exits via acquisition, and more than $3.5B in public returns have been produced.

Today, Wesley Clover has interests in a range of next-generation cloud and SaaS technology companies, as well as in selected commercial real estate and leisure properties. In addition to being the Chairman of Wesley Clover, Terry is also Chairman of a number of these private and publicly traded companies, and he sits as a Director on the Boards of several others.

Terry holds an Honours degree in electronics from the University of Wales and is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical Engineers and of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He has been awarded honorary doctorates by several universities, including the University of Wales and Carleton University in Ottawa. In 1994, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), and in 2001, as part of the Queen's Birthday Honours, he received the honour of Knight Bachelor. He was also appointed Patron of the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute in 2011, and in 2017, was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada for his outstanding achievements.
