Event Overview

Event Name: Wings of Innovation 2.0 - Drone Workshop
Date: September 26th and 27th, 2024
Time: 5:30 PM
Venue: LT2

Introduction:

IEEE JUIT SB hosted a hands-on drone workshop titled "Wings of Innovation 2.0" on the 26th and 27th of September 2024. The workshop aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge of drone construction, covering all essential components and concluding with a thrilling drone flying demonstration. The workshop provided a comprehensive learning experience that enabled participants to not only construct a drone
but also gain insights into the dynamics of flight.

Objectives:

- To provide hands-on training in drone construction, covering all critical components.
- To impart technical knowledge on the functioning and integration of drone systems.
- To offer a practical flying demonstration, enabling participants to control and operate drones effectively.
- To inspire innovation in the field of drone technology among students.

Event Proceedings:

The workshop spanned over two days and included a blend of theory and practical sessions.

Day 1 (September 26, 2024): Drone Construction and Component Breakdown

The first day kicked off with a detailed introduction to the components used in drone construction, including motors, propellers, flight controllers, ESCs, batteries, and frames. Participants were provided with individual kits containing these components, and instructors guided them step-by-step in assembling the drone.
By the end of the session, participants had successfully built their drones, understanding the purpose and function of each part. Queries regarding motor alignment, wiring, and the controller setup were addressed during an interactive Q&A session.

Day 2 (September 27, 2024): Drone Flying and Demonstration

The second day was dedicated to practical flying sessions. After a brief on drone flight safety protocols and basic flight control mechanisms, a flying demonstration was conducted by experienced drone operators. They showcased the drone’s agility and discussed the technical aspects of flying under various conditions.

Following the demonstration, participants had the opportunity to fly their own drones.
With guidance from the instructors, they practiced basic maneuvers such as takeoff, hovering, directional flight, and landing. The flying demo provided participants with hands-on experience in controlling the drone’s speed, altitude, and direction, ensuring they understood the aerodynamics of drone operation.

The session concluded with an exciting drone race between participants, showcasing the skills they acquired over the course of the workshop.
