Southeast University's IEEE Student Branch hosted a vibrant IEEE Day celebration on campus. The event kicked off with a rally led by the university's Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Mofazzal Hossain, Registrar, Chairperson of EEE, Counselor of the SEU IEEE Student Branch, faculty members and students from the department.

The Vice-Chancellor warmly welcomed the students, commending the organizing team for their exceptional efforts in putting together such a remarkable event.

Two key technical talks were:

  1. "Power System of Bangladesh: Present Status and Future Trends" by Prof. Dr. M. Mofazzal Hossain, Pro-VC, SEU.
  2. "Publication 101" by Dr. Md. Asif Hossain, Counselor, IEEE SEU SB.

 The Pro Vice-Chancellor followed with an insightful talk on the power system of Bangladesh, shedding light on various aspects of the country's power generation, transmission, and distribution.

The SEU IEEE Student Branch Counselor concluded the event with a captivating presentation on research paper writing, inspiring students to delve deeper into research endeavors. The event reinforced the university's commitment to fostering research and innovation, especially in critical fields such as power systems and technology publication.

Power System of Bangladesh: Present Status and Future Trends

Biography:

Prof. Dr. M. Mofazzal Hossain joined at Southeast University as a Pro-Vice Chancellor on 18 April 2024. He earned his B.Sc. Eng. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka, and Masters and Ph.D. from Kanazawa University, Japan in 1993, 2000 and 2003 respectively.

Before joining Southeast University, Professor Hossain held positions as the Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, and Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB). With nearly three decades of experience in teaching, research, and administration, his career spans various prestigious institutions both domestically and internationally. Commencing his career as a Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (formerly Bangladesh Institute of Technology, Chittagong) in April 1994, he progressed to the role of Assistant Professor until April 2008. During his tenure, he also served as the Head of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department and Provost of Ladies Hall. From May 2008 to December 2018, Professor Hossain contributed to East West University, Dhaka, serving as the Chairperson of the ECE Department and later as the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering. Additionally, he held various responsibilities including membership in the Syndicate, Academic Council, and Finance Committee. He further enriched his academic experience as a visiting postdoctoral research fellow at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, from November 2005 to November 2007, and as a JASSO fellow at Kanazawa University in 2014.

Biography:

Dr. Md. Asif Hossain is currently working as an Assistant Professor at Southeast University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has pursued a Ph.D. at the University of Malaya (UM). He worked as a Research Assistant at UM. He also worked as a faculty member at East West University, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
