Fundamentals of AC Drives: Applications, Troubleshooting, and Hands-On Training
Registration required no payment at the door. This takes place over 2 consecutive night's , Oct-22 &23 2024. A total of 5 PDH will be issued to registered attendees.
Workshop: This course provides an in-depth introduction to the fundamentals of AC motor and drive technology, focusing on practical applications, troubleshooting, and hands-on experience.
The course covers the following topics:
Fundamentals: AC Motor Topology & AC Drive Topology, Applications, Normal-Duty & Heavy-Duty, Affinity Laws, Understanding Pump Curves, Constant Horsepower, Application Concerns, and Drive Concerns & Best Practices.
Harmonics Mitigation Techniques: Filters – Diode Front End vs. Active Front End, Reflective Wave – dv/dt, Cable Concerns – VFD Cable, Mitigation Techniques.
Drive Troubleshooting: Understanding Drive Fault Codes, Troubleshooting Lessons, VFD Checks & DC Bus Capacitor Reforming, Hands-On Drive Programming.
This course is ideal for engineers seeking a foundational understanding of AC drives, as well as hands-on experience with troubleshooting and programming tools. Participants are encouraged to bring a digital multimeter with diode check capabilities for the hands-on segment.

Over 42 years experience in the application of adjustable speed motor controls.
• After returning from military service in 1982, spent over 13 years, managing a family own business, specializing in the installation, service, repair, and sales of DC & AC variable speed drives.
• After leaving this business in 1995, managed various drive and soft-starter sales territories for several manufacturer and distribution companies throughout Texas and Oklahoma.
• Joined Schneider Electric in 2006.
• Product Application Engineer for LV & MV Variable Speed Drives & LV Soft-starters since 2014.
• Resides in Denton, Texas
