On the first Tuesday of October, the IEEE Student Branch at ABV-IIITM Gwalior celebrated IEEE Day 2024 with great enthusiasm and energy. The primary aim of this event was to introduce the new batch to the workings of IEEE, including its rules, benefits, and the vast opportunities it provides. The event served as an informative platform to guide the new members into the world of IEEE, helping them understand the importance of being part of this prestigious global organization.
The event was graced by Pinku Ranjan Sir and Somesh Sir, our esteemed guests of honour for the day. Their presence added immense value, as they shared their insights and experiences, motivating the students to make the most of the resources and opportunities that IEEE offers.
One of the day's key highlights was the appointment of the new treasurer for the IEEE Student Branch. This was a significant moment, as the newly appointed treasurer will play a pivotal role in managing and driving the financial aspects of the branch.
A cake-cutting ceremony was held to mark the celebration, symbolizing unity and the fresh start of another year of IEEE activities at ABV-IIITM. The event was further enriched with various competitions, designed to engage and inspire the participants.
Among the competitions, the most notable one was for creating an anthem for the ABV-IIITM IEEE Student Branch. This competition was of great importance, as it aimed to establish a musical identity for the branch, one that would resonate with its values and vision.
The event was a resounding success, blending information with celebration, and laying a strong foundation for the new batch to actively engage with IEEE and its mission.

Dr. Somesh Kumar Kumar, one of the distinguished guests at IEEE Day 2024, delivered an inspiring speech focused on the vision, mission, and future plans of IEEE. He began by emphasizing IEEE’s role as the world’s largest technical professional organization, dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Dr. Somesh Kumar highlighted the importance of IEEE’s vast network of professionals and students in fostering innovation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing.
He shared insights into how IEEE helps shape the careers of young engineers and technologists by providing them access to cutting-edge research, global conferences, and professional development opportunities. Dr. Somesh Kumar also outlined future plans for the IEEE Student Branch at ABV-IIITM Gwalior, including expanding mentorship programs, introducing new technical workshops, and encouraging students to actively participate in IEEE's global initiatives. He emphasized the importance of embracing emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, and sustainable energy, urging students to stay curious, proactive, and engaged with IEEE’s mission of innovation and technological advancement. His speech left the audience motivated, reaffirming the crucial role IEEE plays in shaping the future of technology and its leaders.
Biography:
Dr. Somesh Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Electrical Engineering department at the ABV-Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (IIITM) Gwalior. He has been a faculty member since January 2019, contributing significantly to the department's research and educational programs.
Dr. Somesh Kumar's research interests are at the forefront of advancements in electrical engineering. He focuses on the design and fabrication of high-speed chip-chip and 3D interconnects, exploring 3D integration and through-silicon vias (TSVs), and developing graphene-based nanoelectronic devices and interconnects. His work in 3D IC design and interconnect architecture for network-on-chips is aimed at pushing the boundaries of technology. Additionally, he investigates flexible devices, reflecting his commitment to innovation in the field.
Dr. Somesh Kumar earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in VLSI Design (Devices & Circuits) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, where he completed his degree in 2018. His academic background and research expertise underscore his dedication to advancing technology and educating the next generation of engineers.

Dr. Pinku Ranjan

Dr. Pinku Ranjan delivered a compelling speech during IEEE Day 2024, focusing on the transformative power of IEEE and its commitment to building a global community of innovators. He began by reflecting on the history and impact of IEEE, highlighting its contributions to technological advancements and its influence on shaping the careers of countless professionals worldwide. He also shed light on IEEE’s future initiatives, aiming to create more opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, introduce hands-on technical projects, and support student-led research in emerging areas like robotics, data science, and sustainable technology. Dr. Pinku encouraged students to actively engage with IEEE’s resources, leverage its global network, and contribute to the shared goal of advancing technology for societal benefit. His words resonated with the audience, inspiring them to see IEEE not just as a professional community but as a catalyst for growth, innovation, and positive change in the world.
Biography:
Dr. Pinku Ranjan is an Assistant Professor at the ABV-Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management (IIITM) Gwalior, where he has been a part of the faculty since March 2019. With a strong background in Electrical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering, Dr. Ranjan has made notable contributions to both research and teaching, particularly in the area of dielectric resonator antennas. His research focuses on designing rectangular dielectric resonator antennas for wireless applications, including mobile phones, laptops, and Bluetooth devices. This work is crucial for advancing wireless communication technologies.
Before joining IIITM, Dr. Ranjan worked as a Research Assistant Professor at SRM University, Chennai, where he contributed to research in advanced wireless communication systems. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, where he specialized in dielectric resonator antennas. Dr. Ranjan's academic journey also includes a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) degree in Electrical, Electronics, and Communication Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.
In addition to his research, Dr. Ranjan has extensive experience teaching digital ICs, analog circuits, and VHDL lab courses. His dedication to guiding students and fostering innovation in wireless communication positions him as a leading expert in his field.
