IEEE UFFC Seattle Tech Talk - A Few Applications of Focused Ultrasound from Medicine to Industry
The Seattle Chapter of the IEEE Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Society (UFFC-S) aims to provide UFFC-S members with opportunities for professional and personal growth as well as network with the local, vibrant UFFC community.
Dr. Tom Matula, PhD will be our guest speaker. Dr. Matula is a Senior Principal Physicist at the University of Washington Applied Physics Laboratory and Director of the Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound. He is also a Co-Director of the UW Molecular Imaging and Therapy Center and Co-Founder & CEO of Matchstick Technologies. Much of Dr. Matula's research and development focuses on applications of focused ultrasound.
Dr. Matula will present on "A few applications of focused ultrasound from medicine to industry."
This meeting will be hosted by our friends and colleagues at Fujifilm Sonosite. The meeting will be hybrid. Please register so that organizers can plan accordingly.

Dr. Tom Matula, PhD of University of Washington
A few applications of focused ultrasound from medicine to industry
Biography:

 Tom Matula obtained his Bachelors degree from Fresno State University in California and Masters and PhD degrees from the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle. Following his PhD Studies, he joined the UW Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) as a Research Scientist. He is now Director of the APL Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound as well as Co-Director of the UW Ultrasound-based Washington Molecular Imaging and Therapy Center. In addition to his academic research, Tom co-founded the company Matchstick Technologies which focuses on high-throughput instruments for the genomics and epigenetics fields. Tom's research has spanned a wide range of acoustic applications: sonoluminescence (light from a cavitating bubble) to contrast-enhanced medical ultrasound images to biospecimen preparation for multi-omic studies. Tom is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and a Senior Member of the IEEE. He is a prolific author with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He is also an inventor on multiple issued patents.  |
