The adventure of traveling to Antarctica and generating energy: combining thermoelectric generators and IoT technologies

Biography:

Leyre Catalán Ros obtained her PhD degree from the Public University of Navarra in October 2020 with a "cum laude" qualification and international mention. She had previously completed the Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Technologies Engineering (2015) and the Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering (2017), both with an extraordinary end-of-degree award, as well as the Master's Degree in Energy Systems at Högskolan i Gävle (Sweden, 2015) and the University's Expert Degree in Data Science and Big Data (2018) at the UPNA. Since 2017 she has been a member of the Thermal and Fluid Engineering research group and the Institute of Smart Cities of the UPNA. Her main research lines focus on thermoelectric generation, with a great interest in the use of geothermal heat of volcanic origin. As a researcher in the aforementioned group, she has collaborated in several research projects related to thermoelectric generation and cooling, the simulation of thermal systems, and the design and optimization of heat exchangers. These works have given rise to an international patent, more than fifteen articles in high-impact scientific journals and conference proceedings, more than thirty contributions to international conferences, a book and a book chapter. During this time, she has also carried out research stays at the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies (Tenerife) and at Cardiff University (United Kingdom). Thanks to these merits, Leyre received the Graduate Student Award 2020 from the International Thermoelectric Society, and was a beneficiary of the Fuentes Dutor Scholarship from the Official College of Industrial Engineers of Navarra.

Exploring the World of Inertial Sensors: Advanced Motion Analysis

Biography:

Nora Millor Muruzábal  is a Telecommunications Engineer from the Public University of Navarre. She has also done a Master's Degree in Communication Technologies and Services, from the Public University of Navarre. She has done a research stay at the Laboratory of Motion Analysis and Measurement in Lausanne (Switzerland) with the aim of validating algorithms in motion analysis with inertial sensors and at the Joseph Fourier University in Grenoble (France) evaluating the implementation of new sensors in a Health Intelligent Room (HIS).  She has participated in several projects of the Spanish Network on Aging and Frailty (RETICEF) of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, focused on the processing of biomechanical signals to obtain movement patterns related to frailty in elderly people. She has also collaborated with the Centro de Estudios e Investigación de Medicina Deportiva (CEIMD) in the identification of movement patterns associated with sports injuries. She is co-author of 15 articles published in high impact scientific journals (such as Journal of the American Aging Association; Journal of NeuroEngineering and Rehabilitation; IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics and Sport Biomechanics) and also made 8 contributions to national and national programs and international congresses, such as the 4th International Conference on Ambulatory Monitoring of Physical Activity and Movement; International Conference on NeuroRehabilitation, the 2nd International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering and the 20th World Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics.
