PIXELS AND SHADES:Introduction to Image Processing

As part of IEEE Day, IEEE IAS SBC in association with IEEE SB NSSCE organized an online session 'PIXELS AND SHADES: Introduction to Image Processing'.It was designed to introduce participants to the basics of image processing. The session was conducted on 8th October from 8 PM to 9:30 PM. The session was handled by Dr.Sreelekshmi P S, Assistant Professor, ECE Department, NSSCE & PhD in Biomedical Image Processing. The session began with an introduction to images, providing a fundamental understanding of how images are represented digitally. The speaker explained how images are composed of pixels and how these are manipulated to create various effects in image processing. Topics like edge detection were also the highlights of the session. Key concepts such as contrast, saturation, hue, brightness, etc. were discussed in detail during the session. Participants learned how contrast impacts the difference between light and dark areas in an image, while saturation affects the intensity of the colors.  Hue, representing the actual color perceived by the human eye, was also elaborated upon, with examples to show how these elements combine to influence the overall appearance of an image. The event was engaging and inspiring, making the session a complete success. Participants developed a deeper and clearer understanding of the fundamental concepts of image processing
