Focus on Nature: Through The Lens of Sustainability:
INTRODUCTION OF THEEVENT:
The IEEE Photonics Society at Chandigarh University organized an online photography competition, "Focus
on Nature: Through the Lens of Sustainability", from 1 September, 2024 to 7 October 2024. The competition aimed
to raise awareness about environmental sustainability while celebrating the beauty of nature through the
art of photography. Participants were encouraged to capture images reflecting the harmony between
nature and sustainable practices, aligning with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
EVENTOBJECTIVE:
The primary objective of the competition was to inspire students and photography enthusiasts to focus on
nature and sustainability by:
Encouraging creativity in capturing sustainable practices.
Raising awareness about the importance of the SDGs through photography.
Providing a platform to showcase the unique connection between nature and sustainable
development.
TARGETAUDIENCE:
The competition was open to students of Chandigarh University and other photography enthusiasts who
have a passion for nature and sustainability.
Event Highlights
1. Photography Submissions:
o Participants were required to submit photographs that portrayed the beauty of nature
while showcasing sustainable practices. Photos were aligned with the 17 Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs).
o A total of 100 participants submitted their entries, with each photograph accompanied by a
brief description explaining how the image aligned with the theme.

2. Panel of Judges:
o A distinguished panel of experts evaluated the submissions based on creativity, visual
impact, alignment with the SDGs, and storytelling through photography.
3. Final Judging and Winner Announcement:
o On 8th October 2024, the winning entries were announced during an offline event: SDG
Visionaries, Organised by IEEE Photonics Society, CUSB. The winners were awarded an
exciting opportunity to visit TIFR Mumbai as the prize.
