On Wednesday, October 9th, Eco Thoughts, a two-day sustainability event in collaboration with the Tunisian environmental startup Carbon Jar, kicked off.

The event welcomed 52 attendees to the Auditorium for a series of presentations and discussions.

The opening session featured a keynote address by Steven Pearce, a Harvard graduate and award-winning sustainability professional. Pearce provided a clear overview of ESG(Environmental, Social, and Governance) and carbon footprint, drawing on real-world
examples to illustrate his points. His perspective as a citizen of the United States offered attendees valuable insights into the impact of high consumption societies on carbon emissions.

Following Pearce, Marieme Hassene, founder of Carbon Jar and a former industrial chemistry student at INSAT, explained the concept of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in detail.
Finally, Hicham Hakim, a technical manager in the sustainability sector, emphasized the importance of sustainability in engineering. He highlighted the critical role of engineers in developing solutions to address climate change.
The opening ceremony successfully introduced participants to the key themes of Eco.
Thoughts and prepared them for the technical workshops and challenges that would follow on the second day.
