16th Brazilian Symposium on Robotics - SBR 2024
The SBR (Brazilian Robotics Symposium) aim at promoting a comprehensive scientific meeting in the area of Intelligent Robotics, bringing together researchers, undergraduate and graduate students of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, and related fields.
The SBR and its associated scientific events are the primary scientific/academic meetings of a larger event that brings relevant developments in robotics, named ROBÓTICA 2024. This also comprises the CBR (Brazilian Robotics Competition), OBR (Brazilian Robotics Olympiad), MNR (National Robotics Fair), besides the SBR, WRE (Workshop on Robotics in Education) and WTDR / CTDR (Workshop on MSc Dissertation and PhD Thesis in Robotics and Best MSc Dissertation and PhD Thesis Contest in Robotics ).
The event will include technical sessions of an oral presentation of full papers and technical lectures of recognized importance in the area. SBR will take place in Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil from November 13 to 15, 2024 at Centro de Convenções Goiânia, Rua 4, 1400 – Setor Central, Goiânia – GO, Brasil. 74025-020

Towards "Open-World" Robot Safety
I lead the Interactive and Trustworthy Robotics Lab (Intent Lab). We will talk about our study on how to enable robots to safely interact with the "open world". We broadly draw upon methods from optimal control, dynamic game theory, uncertainty quantification, and deep learning.

Robotics in agriculture and forestry
The constant advances in agricultural robotics aim to overcome the challenges imposed by population growth, accelerated urbanization, high competitiveness of high-quality products, environmental preservation and a lack of qualified labor. In this sense, this review paper surveys the main existing applications of agricultural robotic systems for the execution of land preparation before planting, sowing, planting, plant treatment, harvesting, yield estimation and phenotyping. In general, all robots were evaluated according to the following criteria: its locomotion system, what is the final application, if it has sensors, robotic arm and/or computer vision algorithm, what is its development stage and which country and continent they belong. After evaluating all similar characteristics, to expose the research trends, common pitfalls and the characteristics that hinder commercial development, and discover which countries are investing into Research and Development (R&D) in these technologies for the future, four major areas that need future research work for enhancing the state of the art in smart agriculture were highlighted: locomotion systems, sensors, computer vision algorithms and communication technologies. The results of this research suggest that the investment in agricultural robotic systems allows to achieve short—harvest monitoring—and long-term objectives—yield estimation.
