IEEE Week Celebration: IEEE Awareness Program: Women in Engineering (WIE)
On October 4, 2024, Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology hosted a seminar titled "Introduction to IEEE Women in Engineering." The event was conducted for female faculties & students which highlighted how they can make significant contributions to the field of engineering education and the empowerment of women in technology.
The seminar aimed to introduce students, particularly women in STEM, to the mission and opportunities provided by IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE). This global network encourages women to pursue careers in engineering and technology, provides support, and addresses the gender gap in these fields.

Introduction to IEEE and WIE: Dr. Chakraborty began by providing an introduction to the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and its Women in Engineering initiative. She explained how IEEE WIE is one of the largest international organizations dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists.
Personal Experiences and Motivation: She shared her personal journey as a woman in engineering and the challenges she encountered, emphasizing the importance of having a support network like WIE. She encouraged young women to embrace challenges and see them as opportunities for growth.
Opportunities within IEEE WIE: Dr. Chakraborty also provided insights into the various benefits of becoming a WIE member, such as networking opportunities, leadership roles, scholarships, conferences, and technical events.

- Current Status of Women in Engineering: Dr. Pallavi Goel presented data and statistics on the current status of women in the engineering field, discussing the gender gap in technical education and the workforce. She highlighted the initiatives taken by IEEE WIE to address these issues.
- Role of Mentorship: Dr. Goel emphasized the importance of mentorship and guidance for young women in engineering. She spoke about how WIE provides platforms for female engineers to connect with mentors, participate in leadership programs, and develop technical and soft skills essential for career advancement.
- Inspiring Case Studies: Dr. Goel also presented case studies of successful women engineers who have made significant contributions to society through their work in fields such as computer science, electronics, and electrical engineering. These examples served as an inspiration for the students attending the seminar.
