Topic:

Trust and Social Justice in the Era of Generative AI

Utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for research and business purposes has become a powerful practice for government, consumer, financial and educational institutions in modern society. However, with the rise of the technological advancements, such as Deep Learning (DL), more and more capabilities exist not only to infer private information of individuals, but to use aggregate data mining for commercial or other purposes. In addition, the issues of accessibility and social injustice become augmented with the rise of new powerful Generative AI systems, utilized for decision-making on social programs, loan distribution, sports facilities access and healthcare.

This keynote will discuss how deep learning methods, specifically the recently emerged generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) systems can bring significant benefits and, at the same time, significant risks to the modern society. On one hand, they can enhance visual knowledge discovery, image processing, NLP (Natural Language processing) tasks, and a gamut of other research and commercial domains. On another hand, there are increased risks of privacy, ethical considerations, and bias that can be augmented by powerful GenAI systems. Going forward, the objective is to shed light and provide a comprehensive consideration to issues of mitigating risks to data privacy and ethical considerations of using AI.
