IEEE Foldscope Workshop at St. George Balikagram: Inspiring Scientific Curiosity through Innovative Tools
On October 6, 2024, the IEEE Power and Energy Society Student Branch Chapter hosted the IEEE Foldscope Workshop at St. George Balikagram, in collaboration with Bhumi NGO, the IEEE Education Society, the IEEE Pune Section. This event was part of a series celebrating IEEE Day and the 140th anniversary of IEEE, aiming to inspire curiosity and passion for science through the innovative Foldscope, a portable, paper-based microscope. The workshop featured an informative presentation on the Foldscope’s design and capabilities, emphasizing its magnification of up to 2,000x and its accessibility for scientific inquiry in remote areas.
Participants engaged in hands-on activities, where they prepared slides and observed specimens, enhancing their practical understanding of microscopy. An open forum followed, allowing attendees to share observations and discuss the Foldscope’s applications in education and community health. The event successfully highlighted the importance of innovative tools in sparking curiosity and fostering a love for science. We extend our gratitude to Bhumi NGO, the IEEE Education Society, the IEEE Pune Section, and the Leadership Summit for their support. The IEEE Power and Energy Society Student Branch Chapter looks forward to planning more events that celebrate IEEE's legacy and inspire future generations.
