The presentation is focused on the life cycle of high and medium voltage (HV/MV) underground power cables from the design to end of life and
includes common cable designs, installations configurations, installation errors, failure modes and both: commissioning and maintenance issues. It is based on many years of experience in cable testing and will provide real life examples.

Boguslaw Bochenski, PhD, PEng of Hydro One

Topic:

HV/MV underground power cables; from design to end of life.

Biography:

Boguslaw received his M.Sc. in Electrical Power Systems, and Computer Science, and Ph.D. in High Voltage Engineering from the Technical University of Lodz, Poland in 2002 and 2005 respectively. For last 10 years his career focused mostly on the life cycle of high voltage
cables, from the design and thermal rating studies, to commissioning testing, condition assessment and now maintenance. For many years he was running a high voltage (69-500 kV) cable testing group at Kinectrics, where he also performed cable thermal rating calculations using finite
element method (FEM). Since September 2022 he has worked for Hydro One as a Maintenance Engineer with portfolio of HV and MV cables, grounding, and HV testing, including partial discharge (PD) measurement. Boguslaw actively participates in IEEE and CIGRE working groups (WG) related to power cables. He contributes currently to CIGRE B1.87 WG: Finite Element Analysis for Cable Rating Calculations and few IEEE 400.x series guides.
