Background information (i.e. building blocks, topology, architecture) of the optical transport network will be discussed, followed by a brief comparison of the older generation and the next generation of optical transport networks. We will conclude with new features, automation, and application of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning in optical transport network.

Shahedur Rahman
Biography:
Shahedur Rahman (P. Eng.) is senior engineer with over 25 years of work experience mostly in the Telecommunications field. Shahedur completed both his B.A.Sc. and M.A.Sc from University of Regina. He is an IEEE senior member and a long term volunteer of IEEE South Saskatchewan Section Executive Committee.
In his career, he has supported wireline voice network, IP TV network, and fixed wireless broadband network. He has also supported and designed SS7 & Diameter based signalling networks, network troubleshoot tools & their infrastructure, and mobile wireless (3G) circuit switch core network. He is experienced in IP core and service development. Most recently, he has designed and architected a next generation long haul optical transport network.
