The IEEE Student Branch and NSS unit of Mohan Babu University, Tirupati initiated NSS community project at SV Zoological Park, Tirupati; With a theme of Enhancing biodiversity conservation and wildlife awareness at the zoological park through habitat restoration, animal care education, waste management, and eco-friendly initiatives, fostering environmental responsibility among students and the community. In This regard, IEEE SB & NSS Unit and Department of Mechanical Engineering volunteers of 50 members are participated of NSS community project on 28.09.2024, from 9:30 to 1:30pm with a title of Plastic Free drive. Mr. C. Selvam, IFS is curator of Zoo granted permission for activities and Mr. Deepak Kumar Zoo official received us and guided during the whole activity. The activity mainly focused on promoting sustainability and environmental conservation. This initiative aimed to tackle plastic waste by advocating for alternatives and encouraging recycling practices within the zoo premises.

As part of the event, multiple awareness programs were conducted, emphasizing the environmental impact of single-use plastics. Volunteers and students from MBU actively participated, and educated visitors about sustainable practices. Additionally, they collected plastic waste from the zoo to ensure proper recycling, demonstrating the university's commitment to environmental stewardship. The plastic-free initiative aligns with the broader goals of SV Zoo, which integrates eco-friendly measures into its operations to protect biodiversity and wildlife. Both MBU and SV Zoo see such initiatives as essential steps towards creating sustainable public spaces while fostering a culture of responsibility among students and the local community.
