An Engineer's Bread and Butter: Optimization
Presentation content: The presentation includes (i) an introduction to machine learning through optimization, (ii) recent work on nonlinear nonconvex optimization, and (iii) a survey of real-world applications. There is also a Q/A session for questions about the presentation or about the process of getting a PhD (application process, research requirements, exams, and career outlook).
