Ultra-low Voltage/Power VCO-based ADC; “The Road Less Travelled”.
VCO-based ADCs have become quite popular in the recent past. Its almost digital architecture brings out the “time-domain” advantage in mixed signal design, which aids the technology scaling in CMOS devices. Even though VCO-based ADCs have received a lot of attention in the wide bandwidth, high performance wireless applications, not much focus has been placed on its ultra-low Voltage/Power capabilities. With growing interest towards ultra-low power wearable devices and battery-less sensor nodes, the need for ultra-low voltage/power data converters has become indispensable. This talk aims to grab the attention of researchers in the direction of ultra-low power data converter design, using VCO-based integrators and quantizer. In this talk the speaker would discuss the current state of ultra-low powers data converters and about the technical challenges/existing solutions in ultra-low power VCO-based ADCs. Talk would be concluded with some thoughts towards future directions.
Biography:
Dr. Narasimman obtained his Bachelor of Technology degree in electronics and communication from Mahatma Gandhi University, India in 2007. From 2007 to 2012 he worked as an ASIC physical design engineer and consultant in India and USA. From 2012 to 2016 he worked towards his PhD thesis, titled “Data Converters using Continuous Time delta sigma modulators with VCO-based integrators and quantizers for Ultra-low power applications”. He is now a research scientist in Institute of Microelectronics (IME), A-Star, Singapore working on energy efficient, high-resolution interface for Inertial Measurement Sensors. His research interest include energy efficient Analog and Mixed signal circuits, Sigma Delta modulators and Sensor Interfaces for Ultra-low power applications. He has published many articles in international peer reviewed publications and also holds one patent on Ultra-low Power Capacitive Sensor Interface.
