IEEE Photonics Society Baltimore Section Seminar Series: Overview of the Integrated Photonics Lab at UCSB


This talk will provide an overview of research activities conducted by the Integrated Photonics Laboratory at the University of California Santa Barbara including integrated photonic transmitters for space optical communications, integrated optical beam forming networks for millimeter wave communications and phased arrays, 3D hybrid integration for silicon photonics, and heteroepitaxy of group III-V compound semiconductors on silicon.

Jonathan Klamkin Jonathan Klamkin of University of California Santa Barbara

Biography:

Jonathan Klamkin is an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of California Santa Barbara. He was an Assistant Professor at Boston University from 2013-2015, an Assistant Professor and Director of the Integrated Photonic Technologies Center at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Pisa, Italy from 2011-2013, and a Technical Staff Member at MIT Lincoln Laboratory from 2008-2011. He received the B.S. degree from Cornell University and the Ph.D. degree from the University of California Santa Barbara. Prof. Klamkin is the Technical Program Chair for the Integrated Photonics Research, Silicon and Nanophotonics Conference, an Associate Editor for Photonics Technology Letters, and the Vice-Chair for the Microwave Theory and Techniques Society Technical Committee on Microwave Photonics. He is the recipient of a NASA Early Career Faculty Space Technology Research Grant and a NASA Early Stage Innovations Award.
