Abstract: The beauty is in the details, especially in relay and control design, where even the smallest mistake can lead to disastrous results. In this discussion, we’ll look at some real-world incidents that could have been averted through a better-quality control process, underscoring the importance of self-checks, following procedures, and cultivating a strong thought process to achieve high-quality designs and implementations. As advancements in technology and process automation diminish the hands-on involvement of engineers, we’ll also confront the unique challenges awaiting the next generation—challenges of design and the seamless transfer of knowledge.

Wes Kaisershot of CDH Utility Solutions

Topic:

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Methods and Capabilities

Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) has emerged in the last
three decades as a professional effort and best practice for
performing and documenting the results of Utility Investigations.
Subsurface Utility Engineers acquire, process, characterize, assess
quality, and present Utility information for Project Development.

Biography:

Wes is an experienced professional civil engineer licensed in 13 states, including Texas, specializing in subsurface utility engineering (SUE), utility coordination, conflict analysis, utility engineering, utility adjustment design, oversight, and construction monitoring and verification. He has developed numerous utility investigations and roadway conflict analyses to avoid, minimize, and accommodate (AMA) utility relocations. He is frequently called upon to provide clients and peers with a cost-effective approach that exceeds current standards. His deep and rounded experience working for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), TxDOT, private sector, and as a highway contractor allows him to successfully lead complex projects. His degree of diligence, vast expertise in federal and state regulations, and knowledge of the various client levels prove his mastery of the work and review processes that occur. His sought-after communication and presentation style is key to coordinating large teams of subconsultants, contractors, clients, and stakeholders to procure timely and successful utility engineering projects. He is the VP Growth and Engineering, CDH Utilty Solutions
Wes is married to the love of his life, Shannon, and they have a blended family with a 21-year-old son, and 21- and 16-year-old daughters. Wes enjoys time hiking, mountain biking, playing golf, and volunteering his time at his local church.
